20 Life Lessons I learned from the Beach
1. There are treasures in the sand. You must look for them.
2. There will always be waves–sometimes fierce, sometimes calm—but they will always be there..expect them.
3. Speaking of waves, they can be scary… they can knock you down and toss you about….but stay out there long enough to ride one in….WHAT BLISS!
4. It’s just not the same without the laughter of children.
5. Tides were created to constantly change–up and down, up and down—therefore they can never always be down.
6. Sometimes if you want to catch the fish, you must dive like the pelicans.
7. Sometimes if you want to catch the fish, you must wait patiently along the shore. The Lord promises to provide this discernment.
8. Just because there are crabs in the water doesn’t mean you’ll get pinched. God still gave us the ocean to enjoy.
9. Build a sandcastle together and get sandy. Sand is left in the shower….a memory is everlasting.
10. Anything built on sand and out of sand WILL wash away.
11. Always pack a snack and a drink.
12. Be your child’s advocate: call them in toward the shore when they are out too far… get out of your chair and drag them in if needed….no, it’s not convenient… no, it’s not relaxing…but they have not the capacity to grasp the depth of the water.
13. Rain doesn’t mean a bad day at the beach….it simply provides for a day of rest and recharging under shelter……perhaps in a hammock.
14. Accept your body… put your bathing suit on and ENJOY your day!! (You DON’T look as bad as you think!!)
15. The ocean never sleeps and “He who keeps you will not slumber,” (Psalm 121:3).
16. Always make time to spend with your family…whether that is a week away, a weekend, a day, or even just a walk. EVERYONE can afford Time.
17. Arm yourself–Apply sunscreen BEFORE setting foot on the sand….you may become distracted and forget….you’ll burn without a doubt.
18. If you have witnessed a sunrise and a sunset within the same day… consider yourself very blessed.
19. If you watched that sunset surrounded by loved ones….consider yourself DOUBLY blessed!
20. Finally… my last little lesson… and this one is mainly for my sweet father who as our family continues to grow is constantly trying to expand our precious beach house to accommodate everyone comfortably….here is what I’ve concluded regarding this:
no family is ever too big
nor house too small
with Christ the foundation
and His love within its walls.
Well, I’m back…we had a GREAT vacation… but as always… we all must return home….It’s good to be back. I hope all of you had a GREAT weekend and I look forward to getting back into my blogging …. I’ve missed it!
