The Jehovah Names of God Bible Study
I absolutely have no idea what I think I’m doing here. All I know is that I was sitting in church one Sunday morning and our pastor was simply mentioning the Jehovah names of God during his sermon and I felt an INTENSE calling in my heart to pursue these characteristics in some form of study. I am no biblical scholar… I am no bible teacher… I just simply love the Lord and with each passing day I am beginning to literally crave his word—particularly the Old Testament. I just love how with every turn of page there is a foreshadowing of the Messiah….it’s just beautiful and perfect. So I am going to take a deeper look at these names or characters of God. I am going to study them in the order of their appearance in the bible. I find it NO coincidence that the name Jehovah Jireh (The Lord will Provide) is the very first one, found in Genesis and Jehovah Shammah (The Lord is Present) is the last one, found in Ezekiel. We all may be in different seasons right now, but the beauty of scripture is that it is applicable in all seasons of our lives. I know that all of us are busy and for some it’s hard to get all the kids to a bible study or even just ourselves!!….I’m busy, too, but I pray I will never be too busy to learn about and spend time with our Lord. I wanted something that I could study that would keep my heart and mind focused on Christ amidst all the weekly “junk” that tends to take up our time… so each name is divided into only four short little lessons a week. I would be honored if you would join me in this study as we grow deeper in our knowledge of God’s word and closer in our relationship with Jesus Christ. With that said…I will be posting the First week on Monday. However… here is a little introduction…..
I was rocking my Josh to sleep one afternoon and of course I was singing to him his favorite song “Jesus Loves Me.” As I was singing I really began to think about the words of that song…hopefully we all know them… but let’s recap… just for fun.. J
Jesus loves me this I know
For the Bible tells me so
Little ones to him belong
They are weak, but He is strong
And I couldn’t help but realize that before I begin studying the names of God and God’s character- in order to fully grasp these names… I MUST believe and be able to stand on certain truths without a shadow of a doubt… and those truths are incorporated in this song. I must believe that the Lord my God loves me….that everything the bible says is true….that eternal salvation belongs to all of those who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and we are now HIS… yet we are still sinful… we are weak… but God is strong… and powerful and through Jesus Christ…..there is victory over sin and above all, GRACE bestowed to us! I’m excited! I pray the Lord will teach us all… I want to know Him better.
Pray today that God will open your heart and your eyes and reveal Himself to you through His word.
Is there anything in your life right now that you are struggling with? Are you questioning the manner in which God is working? In other words, in YOUR opinion do you feel like He is acting in a way that seems uncharacteristic? If so, what is it that you want to ask him? Please write these things down…..
As you pray, ask God your questions– as raw or hurtful as they may sound. Let’s start NOW getting real with God….lay your request before the Lord. Lay them there… and perhaps walk away. It’s okay if you aren’t getting an answer…what is important is that you bring your needs to Him.
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Come to the Father…He doesn’t want you perfect, He doesn’t want you clean, He doesn’t want you ‘fixed’….He just wants you just the way you are… the way he created you…..Come and find your rest in the arms of the Lord who will provide, the Lord who heals, who is our banner, who sanctifies, who is our peace, our shepherd, who is Lord of armies, our righteousness and our present. Come.
