Tornados 101: Birmingham, AL
“I love You, O LORD, my strength.
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised,”
Psalm 18 :1-3
ok… so I just finished emailing one of my friends about what a great day I was having and how all of us are doing well and ARE well. I signed off and left to pick up Will from preschool. It’s so funny how after I wrote “I’m having a great day today”…. a tiny..eensy, weensy.. little thought flashed in my mind for a moment and then gone..”uh oh….better not say that… this afternoon could be insane”…….well, as I’m driving home… we have a tornado warning… it’s nuts out on the roads… schools were closing right and left…the sky darkened…the clouds were swirling….I pull inside my house and begin cleaning out the closet under our stairs……yes…we had….. not one tornado…but two. This afternoon was insane. For the first one… I sort of was watching the news… I mean.. I had already put Emma Faye down for a nap and I didn’t want to wake her. (Dumb me) After a verbal lashing from my neighbor (thanks Gina…hee!hee!) AND my husband… I realized that this was negligence on my part and I vowed never to do it again. So we went about our afternoon as usually.. the tornado passed and I put Josh down for a nap and Emma Faye continued to rest. I lay on the couch “resting my eyes” while Will is playing a game on the computer and suddenly I feel my ears ‘popping’. Now, I know that I have been suffering from sinus issues and allergy junk…but something inside of me screamed…”that better not be the pressure dropping”…..I opened my eyes and the sky was BLACK….I ran outside and looked up… the clouds were swirling… I saw three little funnel clouds ahead in the distance… my neighbor called warning me for “round two”…. but this time… I ran inside…grabbed Josh from his bed… Emma Faye was already stirring… so grabbed her… and we were in the “safe place.” Yikes… can you believe it? I saw on the news that the tornado was directly above us… but I don’t think it touched down anywhere…..so how do you keep a 4 year old, a 2 1/2 year old, a 9mo old AND a mommy in a closet you ask? ah… with the sweet promise of chocolate. hee!hee! jk! not really… after all the fiascoes were over Mommy needed a little relaxer… something to take the edge off… so I made a batch of brownies… I know, I know…. not really good for the “bod”….. but something had to give today…. and unfortunately for me… it was my thighs…. :)

YIKES!!! I was at my mom’s picking up Callahan and we debated about going to a safe place. I remember watching the news and James Spann saying there was a possible tornadoe somewhere between 119 and Chelsea! I guess that’s y’all. I’m glad y’all are safe and didn’t have any damage! Hope to see you Sunday! We have kid’s quest…yeah!

Praise God you are all okay! Crazy stuff. So proud of the way you handled it without freaking out! And with your hubby being at work! God is good and you definitely, definitely deserve some chocolate! I did girl, I made it through the Bridge Run:) It was awesome and Crystal basically scooped my kids up and watched them for me so Mark and I could escape. It has been so what we needed, both of us. Great time to laugh, sleep and escape. So blessed we are!

you are so funny, jenny, talking about the “bod” and the something suffering being your thighs. you really make me laugh….so you made a batch of brownies - sounds like a pretty great relaxer, and after having been in a CLOSET with 3 under 5, hmmmm - what a great treat for you and your kiddies - at least you didn’t bust out a bottle of red wine to relax the 4 of you :)! my kids would LOVE me if i busted out some brownies! (i guess i don’t really like brownies, but i do the same with blueberry muffins!!!)
